Jazz in Peekskill; Oktoberfest in Putnam Valley

There are tons of ways to keep busy around Cortlandt and Peekskill this weekend, and we're here to help you decide which happenings are for you.

Autumn Jazz Vespers***Ray Blue Quartet
When? 3:30 p.m. Sunday
Where? Peekskill Presbyterian Church, 705 South Street in Peekskill
Why go? Come out and enjoy live music—featuring a drums, a piano, a sax and more—with jazz vocalist Beverly Crosby in the church garden. Sunday's weather looks pleasant: Mostly sunny with a high of about 71 degrees.

Introduction to Capoeira Workshop

When: 2:15 p.m. Saturday
Where: EMBARK at Energy Movement Center, 925 South Street in Peekskill
Why go? Learn about—and try—a form of martial arts that was developed by African slaves during the 1500s. It involves everything from dance and music to martial arts and sports, plus agility, balance, coordination and strength.

Oktoberfest
When: 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday; noon to 8 p.m. Sunday
Where: 11 Kramers Pond Road in Putnam Valley
Why go? The German American Social Club promises to make this annual event a good time for all, with live German music, imported beer and plenty of authentic food. There will be activities for youngsters, too.
