Rodney and Jackson combine for 25 in PHS victory: Peekskill-Cortlandt Daily Sports Digest Jan. 23

Varsity girls basketball

Led by 13 points from Lanay Rodney and 12 from Asia Jackson, defending Class A state champion defeated Yorktown 61-12 Jan. 20.

Troi Nolan also contributed to the win with nine points, followed by Adriane Jackson (six), Shaina Iton (six), Shonae Draper (four), Aubrey Dabbs (three), Morgan Beechum (three), Dottie Bradshaw (three) and Latisha Clark (two).

Yorktown also displayed a well-balanced attack with Jen Kelsey, Michelle Pike, Katie Frederick, Jen Burke, Stephanie Kuczinski and Heidi Gspurning all recording two points apiece.

 

JV girls basketball

Before the varsity game, Yorktown and Peekskill also hooked up in a JV contest with Peekskill winning 45-27.

Leading Yorktown in scoring was Rachel Bernz with eight points.

Joining her in the scoring column was Nicole Triassi (four points), Shannon Reilly (three), Alyssa Triassi (three), two points apiece from Megan Carney, Christine George, Lauren Sackett and Jenna Gammer and one point from Talia Bonner.

Peekskill was led to the win by Aaliyah Vereen, who registered a game-high 15 points, followed by Mykayla Greene (10), Lisana Burnett (six), Kiarra Dillard (six), Taylor Clare (four), Tiarra Dillard (three) and Nyrie Holliman (one).

 

Peekskill beats Panas

One of the games in the area that always gets the juices flowing is when Peekskill and Walter Panas hook up in anything, especially boys basketball.

They met Jan. 18 at Panas with the Red Devils coming out on top 83-62.

Peekskill's Chandler Pierce registered a game-high 26 points with teammate Kyree Hull contributing 15 points.

Vaughn Dweck, who was red hot from downtown, led Panas with 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
