The Shrub Oak 17U American Legion Baseball Team captured the Artie Pisano Memorial Baseball Tournament this past weekend by going undefeated with a 6-0 record. The tournament is in honor of Pisano, who died of pancreatic cancer.

This is the fifth annual tournament and it is played over in Rockland County. The proceeds from the tournament go to pancreatic cancer research. The Shrub Oak team is comprised of players from Lakeland, Walter Panas, Hendrick Hudson, Westlake, Yorktown and Carmel High Schools.

Scott Russo of Yorktown was voted the tournament’s MVP. Shrub Oak defeated the host Rockland Riverdogs in the championship game by the score of 7-4.

Boys Basketball

Walter Panas' Vaughn Dweck made the first cut for the Section 1 team that is competing in the second annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival on August 3-5 at Johnson City High School, which is just outside of Binghamton, according to MSG Varsity.

Panas Sports Camps

The below appeared on the Lakeland Central School District website:

The Walter Panas summer sports camps are open to students in the Lakeland Central School District entering Grade 4 through Grade 10 in September 2012 with the exception of Cheerleading which is for grades K-8.

The camp will hold 4 one-week sessions (Monday-Thursday) from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Walter Panas High School. Session 1: Boys and Girls Soccer and Track & Field-June 25 to June 28, Session 2: Baseball, Softball, and Field Hockey-July 2 to July 6 (except July 4), Session 3: Volleyball, Football, and Cheerleading-July 9 to July 12, and Session 4: Boys and Girls Basketball and Tennis-July 16 to July 19.
