Season in Review: Lakeland/Panas Boys Lacrosse

Caffrey and Prunty earn All-American honors for Section 1 Class A finalist.

Lakeland/Panas senior attackmen Robert Caffrey and Conor Prunty were named All-Americans this spring. For Prunty, who will play college lacrosse at Siena next year, it was the second year in a row that he was named All-American.

“It’s special to win that honor with my friend, teammate and co-captain Conor Prunty,” Caffrey said. “It’s an award that acknowledges what you not only have done on the field but also your leadership. It’s a good feeling when the coaches acknowledge what you have done.”

Caffrey, who will play next season at Providence, said the Rebels two All-Americans worked well together.

“Conor is a great player,” Caffrey said. “He’s just sees the field very well. Conor was a big help to me and I was a big help to him.”

The Rebels All-American duo helped lead a young team to an 11-9 record and a berth in the Section 1 Class A championship game, which it lost to Mahopac 7-5.

Also helping the Rebels get to the title game was All-Section junior midfielder Chris Monteferante.

“Chris is going to have a great senior year next season,” Caffrey said. “He’s going to put in a lot of goals and definitely win a lot of face-offs. Also, All-Section honorable mention Tony Laguerre, a junior, is going to have a big senior year, everybody is going to be talking about him next season.”

Caffrey also expects big things from freshman goalie Mike Zingaro.

“He just plays with a bunch of confidence and when he losses a game, he takes it personal, especially as a goalie,” Caffrey said. “He is always pushing himself to get better. I actually think we could’ve got another All-Section or All-Section honorable mention, and he could’ve been in the discussion for either of those awards. Only good things are going to come in the next few years with him.”
