All-Star Hoops Team Going to County Center: Peekskill-Cortlandt Daily Sports Digest March 12

Girls All-Star Team

The Peekskill All Star Girls Basketball Team will open up against Irvington on Wednesday, March 14 at 5 pm in the Westchester County Recreation Basketball Tournament. The games are being played at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

This is a single elimination tournament. The team is coached by Tom Fields and the players are Jodi Glickert, Jordyn Alston, Nicole Mitchell, Sandra Murphy, Akua Yeboah, Tatyanna Arceneaux, Francesca Snipes, Niya Fields, Adrianna Parks, Alissa Thompson and Mykaylah Taylor.

Girls Division

The Gumdrops were led by the “M & M” girls, Sandra Murphy with 18 points and Nicole Mitchell with 11 points as they went on to defeat the Skittles 31-9. Akua Yeboah rounded out the scoring with 2 points. The Skittles kept the game close as the halftime score was 10-7. They were led in scoring by Francesca Snipes with 7 and Niya Fields with 2.

The Fire Balls played a solid game and won 18-6 over the Kit Kats. Jordin Wright led the victors with 8 points while Jodi Glickert had 6. Glickert did a great job with her unselfish play resulting in baskets from Jordyn Alston and Mya Edmonds. Alissa Thompson led her team in scoring with 4 points, who also played a strong all around game. Mykaylah Taylor had 2 points.

Pee Wee Boys Division

The Eagles flew by the Cardinals by the score of 21-13. The Eagles got a good game from Jameek Allen as he dropped in 9 points. Jordan Wilson andJaden Walters each had 4 points with Tyrell and David Bradshaw scoring a bucket. Myles Walker had another solid game for the Cardinals with 11 points as Anthony Turner added 2. Leading the Cardinals in the rebound department was Malachi McDonaldKendall Cousins and Jason CurilloMatthew Torres had 2 assists while Kevin Lojano and Xavier Bynum led in the steals category.

The Hornets played a strong game as they went on to victory 28-9 over the Hawks. JaronReed had a nice game with 12 points for the Hornets. Jaelyn Norman Thomas had 6 with Joshua McCrae scoring 5. Ellias Ettihirregistered 3 and Nicholas Carchi added 2. Dejawn White led his team with 6 points with Joshua Allen and Joey Malaspina had 2 and 1 point.

Practice Starts

Today is a big day for every spring sports squad in Section 1, including Hendrick Hudson, Peekskill and Walter Panas, because it’s the day that all varsity and junior varsity teams start practice.
