The defending New York State Class A champion Peekskill girls basketball squad started the season with a 56-30 triumph against visiting R.C. Ketcham Dec. 7.
Morgan Beechum paced Peekskill with 16 points.

Asia Jackson, who directed the offense beautifully, registered 10 points, seven assists and seven steals.
Dottie Bradshaw contributed 10 points to the win.
Peekskill boys open up with win
Peekskill's boys basketball squad got the season off to a hot start as it defeated visiting Lincoln Hall, coached by 1993 PHS graduate Henry Taylor, 68-20 in its opener Dec. 7.
Chandler Pierce and Kyree Hull each had a game high 14 points with Pierce also grabbing 12 rebounds. Tyler Daniel contributed 11 points and five assists.
Cortlandt stands out on pitch
The Town of Cortlandt Intrepid were 7-1-2 in the boys under 15-1 division of the East Hudson Youth Soccer League.
