Preuss leads Panas to title

Sometimes there are games where a player simply will not let his team lose and that was the case for Walter Panas' Zac Preuss in the Walter Panas Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Championship game Dec. 17.

Preuss scored a game-high 26 points in addition to recording six assists and grabbing five boards in the Panthers' 60-48 triumph against John Jay that gave them the tourney title.

Teammate Vaughn Dweck contributed 13 points to the win.

See Josh Thomson's post on the LoHud Varsity Insider for more scores.

Peekskill girls record wild comeback

Last year Peekskill's girls baskeball squad, on its way to its first state girls hoop crown in school history, made an epic comeback by overcoming a 16-point third-quarter deficit to defeat Pearl River 62-54 in the Section 1 Class A title game.

Evidently, the Lady Devils still have that come-back ability in them as they overcame a 30-14 halftime deficit to stun White Plains 52-47 in the opening round of the 19th annual Rye Rotary Holiday Classic Dec. 16.

Peekskill was led by Morgan Beechum's 19 and Asia Jackson's 14 points.

For the game story, see Kevin Kurtz' work on MSG Varsity.

In the championship game Dec. 17, Peekskill lost to New Rochelle 50-37 with Beechum scoring a team-high 13 points.

For more scores, see Yaron Weitzman's post on the LoHud Girls Basketball Blog.
