We thank Support Connection for the below submission. Sound like a great time for a great cause so if you can make it, go for it:

(Yorktown Heights, NY) Support Connection, Inc, is calling all baseball fans for their 3rd Annual “Home Run Derby for a Cause” to be held on August 4, 2012 at Peekskill Stadium, Louisa Street, Peekskill, NY. The derby starts at 4 p.m. and its purpose is to raise funds for Support Connection’s free, confidential support services for people affected by breast and ovarian cancer.

Participants can enter the derby for a $25 donation. Each player will receive 10 hits and the person with the most home runs wins! Prizes for 1st and 2nd place plus tee-shirts for ALL participants. Spectators are welcome to attend for a $10 donation, kids under 12 are free.

Enjoy Music, Mascots, and Concession Stand. ALSO: After the derby, enjoy the Fireworks Extravaganza Show, courtesy of Peekskill Celebration. There will be Shuttle buses available during the afternoon and evening from the Celebration. Make a day of it!

Swimming 

We thank Kennedy Catholic for the below submission. We think it's wonderful that this group of ladies is doing this and wish them the best of luck:

A group of Kennedy Catholic alumnae will be taking part in this Saturday's Swim Across America at the Larchmont Yacht Club, 1 Woodbine Ave. in Larchmont, N.Y., in memory of their deceased classmate, Maureen McAvoy '06.  

Maureen died in 2007 following her freshman year at Fairfield University. She had previously been in remission from a brain tumor, but the cancer returned following her graduation from Kennedy.

Of the 12 team members:

  • 10 are Kennedy Catholic alumnae - includes Maureen's sister, Kelly '03, and cousin, Elizabeth '03
  • 9 will be doing the 1-mile swim - 8:30 a.m. start
  • 2 will be volunteering on land
  • 1 will be doing the 4-mile swim - 7:30 a.m. start

Check-in is from 6 - 7 a.m.  Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Peekskill Winning

We thank Peekskill coach Dana Dapson for the below information and wish the team the best of luck in the championships:

Peekskill is doing outstanding in the pool this summer as its 4-1 in the Northern Westchester Swim Conference.

The team heads into the championships on Aug. 4 in a three-way tie for first in Division III with the championships deciding who will move up to Division II next season.
