After months of planning and hard work, artists at Peekskill High School recently had the chance to reveal their mosaic masterpiece at a special ribbon cutting ceremony which took place prior to the school’s spring concert.
The large mural, which was constructed by art students and other volunteers under the direction of PHS Art Teacher Heather Brown, was dedicated to the high school by PHS Principal Fred Hutchinson. Students that helped create the mural were the ones to cut the ribbon at the ceremony.
“After much thought and incredible effort, this mural is complete and we are here to dedicate it to Peekskill High School to mark history and posterity,” Hutchinson said.
The project was made possible through grants from the Peekskill Education Foundation, ArtsWestchester, Garrison Arts Center and New York State Counsel of the Arts.
“I think it looks incredible and that all of our hard work paid off,” Brown said. “It’s really nice to see it every morning. I think everyone walks in happy to be greeted by this.”
