After-School Activities Canceled; Warming Center Open in Peekskill

Hendrick Hudson, Lakeland and Peekskill have canceled afternoon and evening after-school activities for Monday (Jan. 6). The districts announced the decisions on their respective websites.

The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of rain and snow showers Monday afternoon, mainly after 4 p.m. Temperatures will likely reach a high of about 45-degrees, with west wind around 14 mph. Gusts could be as high as 28 mph.

Monday night could bring snow showers, along with a low of about 7-degrees. Expect more windy conditions, with gusts as high as 43 mph.

Tuesday looks mostly sunny and cold, the NWS reports, with a high near 12-degrees and wind chill values as low as -14.

The City of Peekskill has opened a warming center at the Neighborhood Center (4 Nelson Avenue). Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday (Jan. 6) and Tuesday (Jan. 7). After 8 p.m. the Jan Peek House at 200 North Water Street will accept anyone who needs to stay warm.
