Yorktown Teen ID'd as Former Student Who Made Threats Toward Somers Students

Police said the 16-year-old teen had no immediate means to follow through with any of his Facebook threats.

The former Somers High School student, who made threatening comments toward Somers students by posting a message on his Facebook page Wednesday night, is a 16-year-old Yorktown Heights resident, police said today.

The teen, whose name police did not release due to his age, was arrested for making the threats, which according to a Facebook post read that he had been pushed to the edge and to the "point where [his] one goal in life" was to make people's lives miserable even if he were to get "life in prison.

New York State Police in Somers, assisted by the State Police in Haverstraw, charged him with second-degree aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor.

Somers Central School District officials sent an email to parents with children in the school district this morning, letting them know they were aware of the threat toward the high school.

"At this point we have no reason to believe there is any reason for concern. Please send your child to school as usual," the email read.

State police, investigating the incident, said they had determined the teen had no immediate means to follow through with any of his Facebook threats.

The teen was processed and scheduled to appear in court on a future date. He was then released to his parents. Police said an order of protection was issued directing the teen to refrain from future harassment.
