Troopers: Peekskill Man Drove Drunk

State police from the Cortlandt barracks arrested a 44-year-old Peekskill man on a drunken driving charge this weekend, according to officials.

Troopers stopped the defendant at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday on South Street in the City of Peekskill, after they observed the black Ford Mustang he was driving cross over the double yellow line. They noticed "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the operator's breath," authorities said in a statement.

The defendant reportedly failed field sobriety tests and refused to provide a breath sample. He is facing a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, as well as two infractions: moving from a lane unsafely and refusing to take a breath test. He is due Oct. 10 in Peekskill City Court.
