Peekskill Cops Find Drugged, Drunk Man Passed Out in Front of Library

A 38-year-old Yonkers man is facing felony drug charges after Peekskill police found him passed out in front of the library, officials say.

The incident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. Friday when Officer Lou Denet came across an unconscious man on the sidewalk in front of the Field Library at 4 Nelson Avenue.

"It was determined that the subject, who was now identified as 38-year-old Jermaine Shelton of Yonkers, was not suffering from a medical condition but was instead passed out from being under the influence of alcohol and narcotics," authorities said in a statement. "Mr. Shelton was found in to be in possession of powder cocaine at the time of the incident."

Officials charged Shelton with two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies. After being taken to Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor for treatment and released, he was transported back to police headquarters. He was held there pending arraignment.
