Valon Rraci, a 20-year-old injured in a car crash Monday afternoon, died at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, the Journal News’ James O’Rouke reports. Rraci was involved in on Croton Avenue and Sassinoro Boulevard in Cortlandt as the driver of a 2003 Mercedes-Benz. Two passengers were also injured, but state police said they were not as severely injured as Rraci, O’Rouke reports.
The accident occurred around 12:15 p.m. Monday when the vehicle side-swiped a utility pole and then hit another utility pole and slid down an embankment. Police said they believe Rraci was speeding at the time of the accident.
O’Rouke reports that Rraci once “heroically aided police in pulling two classmates from an overturned car” on Croton Avenue in 2008. He helped two girls who had skidded off the road in a Jeep. Rraci was a student at the time. He graduated from WPHS in 2010.
The family said services would likely to take place Thursday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the F. Ruggiero & Sons Funeral Home, 732 Yonkers Ave., Yonkers, according to the News report.
