Cortlandt Parents Arrested After House Party where Alcohol was Served to Minors

State police said 80 to 100 students from Walter Panas, Hendrick Hudson and Lakeland high schools were at the party, which took place Saturday night in the Town of Cortlandt.

A 37-year-old Cortlandt Manor man and his 38-year-old wife were arrested Saturday after they allegedly allowed their 17-year-old son to throw a house party where alcohol and marijuana was being served.

State police said there were 80 to 100 students from Walter Panas, Hendrick Hudson and Lakeland high schools at the party, which took place on Buttonwood Avenue, across from the Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

Police said they arrived at the residence at about 11:23 p.m. after they received complaints from about cars blocking the flow of traffic in the area. Several partygoers ran from the scene when police arrived.

When police interviewed the son, he allegedly told them that the had party grown too large for him to control. The son’s 12-year-old sister was also inside the home during the party.

The parents were charged with misdemeanor counts of unlawfully dealing with a child and endangering the welfare of a child. The son was charged with a violation of unlawful possession of alcohol.

All three were given appearance tickets to appear in Cortlandt town court on Jan. 18.

Why are the names of mommy and daddy dearest printed? I am sure there are parents of students who might have attended that party interested in knowing.

These parents should be ashamed of themselves. And yes..their names should be released. They broke the law!!!

"told them that the party grown too large for him to control" Really? I would have thought 80 to 100 people was just about the right size for a parent-sponsored substance abuse party. On the bright side, if any of them had OD'd, the hospital was right there. Oh, wait, cars were blocking the flow of traffic. Oh, well. Can't win 'em all. Party on, mi compadres.

This happened regularly back in 70's. No one ever hurt or arrested. Same school districts involved with the addition of Peekskill High. Biggest house parties were in Putnam Valley. Since the media is involved no one will ever know the truth about the Buttonwood party. Sounds like no one was injured.

So......your point is...? You think it's okay for 80-100 underage kids drinking and smoking pot, and then driving??? And the parents condone?? Sets great role modeling for the kids. I have a feeling the parents and/or the kids will be in jail or the hospital sometime during their (could be) short life.
