Putnam Valley Students Ask Community to 'Give Red for Ed' at 4th Annual Blood Drive

Members of the Putnam Valley High School National Honor Society are hosting their fourth annual blood drive with New York Blood Center (NYBC) in honor of their much loved Social Studies teacher, Ed Schmitt, who passed away in February 2012 after a long battle with leukemia.

For years, Ed organized the blood drives at his school and encouraged both students and faculty to donate. Throughout his 11-year battle, he received many transfusions. While out on extended medical leave, students rallied to host a blood drive to show support, beginning the 'Give Red for Ed' blood drive tradition.

The drive is this Tuesday, May 20th, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Putnam Valley High School on 146 Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley.

Donors can call Toll Free: 1-800-933-Blood, or visit www.nybloodcenter.org for more information and to register.
