Dragging National Politics Down to the Local Level.

I just visited the Peekskill Democratic City Committee web site where I found an interesting yet sad strategy which I'm happy to report is FADING from many local elections nationally. It's called "Linking" and it's designed to keep the voter base loyal. It's simple, take national issues that your has a knee jerk reaction to and use it locally. This was something that Republicans came up with years ago, it worked like a charm on the Boomers. Now unfortunately for both parties, media savvy generations like X'ers and Millennial's don't respond en mass to this antiquated tactic. Linking is mostly used in local campaigns when the incumbent has to much to defend and can't afford criticism which causes rifts in party politics. For instance, If you've been in office for 6 years and have not produced one medium or large employer who can contribute to the cities tax base in any meaningful way than Linking is for you. One side of the spectrum will drag out the evil Bill Clinton while the other the evil and not to bright George Bush. Things like Middle eastern politics, international trade deficits and even in one local election Guantanamo. Unless I'm very wrong Peekskill doe's not have, nor does it require a Foreign Policy.
What it does require is a smart local government with an actionable domestic policy. We don't have one of those.
