Mr. Hutchinson is currently the Director of Reading and Gifted for the Peekskill Schools. He was appointed to that position in 2011, following an assignment as an English and Reading teacher at Peekskill High School. Prior to joining Peekskill, Mr. Hutchinson served as a school improvement specialist at the Eastern New York Regional School Support Center where he developed educational programs and assisted with improving differentiated accountability standings in public education. He previously taught English in the Cairo-Durham School District, where he was named Teacher of the Year 2005-2006 by the Rotary Club. He also taught English in the Ichabod Crane Central School District; both are located in upstate New York. Mr. Hutchinson has a B.A. degree from SUNY New Paltz in secondary education and English, an M.S. degree in Literacy grades 5-12 from SUNY Albany, and SBL/SDL certification in Education Leadership from the College of St. Rose.

“I am honored to be chosen for this important responsibility,” commented Mr. Hutchinson. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to engage the community, parents, teachers, and students in a conversation of progressive education. Together we can accomplish great things.”

“Fred Hutchinson will bring much-valued knowledge, energy and passion to the administration of Peekskill High School,” Superintendent Jim Willis observed. “He knows our students and faculty well, and I am confident that he will provide strong educational leadership for our school community.”
