Since January, members of the PIES program and Interact Club have been coming to Oakside on Monday afternoons to provide tutoring services. The high school students help out the 2nd and 3rd grade students with their work and whether they realize it or not, they also serve as mentors and role models.
Mercury caught up with some of the young students at Oakside last week and asked them about the program.The three students interviewed were all Third grade students in Ms. Ferrreira’s class.The students were happy to answer the questions.
Dasani Williams meets with Katherine Marmol.She reported that,”We do homework,we read books, and sometimes we do Math cards.I like to work with Katherine because she can be funny.”

Artis Powell Sparrow works with Ms. Risoli.He said that,”We do homework and read. and sometimes we do puzzles. He added that when it’s time to go she says “Good-bye”.
Fernando Calderon said that he does stories and writing with his tutor.He said that he liked meeting with his tutor because he helps him with his homework.
