Turkeys and Toys Needed, Peekskill City Officials Meet

Five things you need to know for today, Nov. 19

1.) Peekskill City Work Session Scheduled Today

The Peekskill Common Council is scheduled to have its work session today at 6:30 p.m. A copy of the agenda can be found here.

2.) Turkeys and Pies Needed

Today is the last day that the Peekskill Area Pastors Association is collecting Turkeys for its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday. Turkeys can be donated at the Salvation Army, located at 117 Nelson Ave. in  Peekskill. Apple or pumpkin pies can also be donated a the United Methodist Church, located at 1040 Main Street in Peekskill.

3.) 8th Annual Chop Down Hunger Benefit is Tuesday

Caring for the Homeless of Peekskill is holding its annual gala benefit 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday at the Hollow Brook Golf Club, located at 1060 Oregon Rd. in  Cortlandt Manor. The evening will feature gourmet food and wine Stations; a silent Auction and raffle including a basketball autographed by Elton Brand; and entertainment by rock-classical violinist Daisy Jopling. 4.) Rescuestuff Hosts Sandy Kids Toy Drive

Rescuestuff, Inc., located at 962 Washington St. in Peekskill, is holding a toy drive Tuesday for children affected by Hurricane Sandy.  People are asked to donate new, unused toys which can be dropped off at the store between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and the hours of 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.

5.) Peekskill City Hall Hosts Sandy Damage Claim Center

A Regional Claim Center is now operating in the first floor conference room at Peekskill City Hall, located on 840 Main Street, for home and business owners who suffered damage because of Hurricane Sandy. Representatives from state and federal agencies are available to assist homeowners and businesses from 9 a.m. to  5 p.m., Monday through  Friday. No appointment is necessary.
