Salvation Army Appeal for Toys, Decision Expected on Accidental Shot Fired in Peekskill

Five Things you should know for today, Dec. 18.

1.) Police to Decide if Charges Will Be Filed in Accidental Gunshot in Peekskill
Authorities will decide today if they are going to charge an 88-year-old Peekskill man with accidentally firing a round from his rifle into his neighbor's home Monday. No was hurt during the incident.

2.) Peekskill Clay Studios Holiday Sale
The Clay Studios Gallery is open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. with great prices and a fabulous selection of pottery for that perfect Holiday gift.

3.) Peekskill Salvation Army Appeal for Toys
The Salvation Army is collecting toy for children between the ages 3 and 13 years old. Last year, the organization gave toys to about 300 families and this year the need has almost doubled. Donations can be left at 117 Nelson Ave in  Peekskill. Call 914 737 0280 more information.

4.) Helicopters to Hover Over Verplanck Thursday and Friday
There's no need to worry about the helicopters overhead in Verplanck Thursday and Friday. It's just  Con Edison doing more repair work on transmission lines crossing the Hudson River. Jane Solnick, a spokeswoman for Con Ed, said the work will require the helicopters hover over the river for several hours.

5.) Orange Splot Art Spot Winter Camp from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1
Art campers, ages 6-12 will have an opportunity to tap into their most creative & innovative selves on their days off from school (home-schoolers welcome too, of course). Includes art making, games, exploration of the interactive art lab, music & snack. Each day campers will focus on an artist, medium, or art idea. They will design, build, express and experimet as a group, on teams and individually, and build a portfolio of work througout the week.  9 a.m. to noon. Registration required.
