Meetings, Memory Screenings and a Contest Winner

Five things you need to know today, Nov. 13.

1.) Off-Duty Peekskill Police Officer Killed in Car Crash

 Peekskill Officer Julian Hermosillo, 29, of Orange County, was killed after he crashed his Jeep Wrangler head-on with an Audi on Route 17 in the Village of Goshen. A passenger in the Audi, Giuseppa Avanzato, 90, Oneonta, OtsegoCounty, also died as a result of injuries from the accident. Read more here.

2.) Peekskill Common Council Meets Tonight

The Peekskill Common Council has scheduled a work session this evening at 6:30 p.m. and a meeting at 7:30 p.m. inside city hall. A copy of tonight’s agenda is available in one of the PDFs to the right of this story.

3.) Peekskill School Board Meets Tonight

The Peekskill school board is scheduled to meet tonight at the Peekskill High School Library. The board is expected to start the meeting in executive session before beginning the public session of the meeting 5:30 p.m. and the public portion of the meeting will begin at 7 p.m. inside the administration building, located at 1031 Elm Street in Peekskill. 4.) Winner Chosen for Patch Halloween Costume Contest

Ashley Playford, of Kingston, Ulster County, won Patch’s Best Halloween Costume in America contest and won a grand prize of $5,000. Playford dressed up as a pirate carrying a mermaid this Halloween. You can take a look at it here.
