Helicopters Over Verplanck, Peekskill High School Competes on 'The Challenge'

Five things you should know for today, Dec. 5.

1.) Peekskill Schools Celebrates Opening of Jason Paige Center
The Peekskill school district celebrated the opening of the Jason C. Paige Health and Fitness Center Tuesday evening at the high school. Paige, a former attendance teacher in the district, died from a heart attack in 2010.

2.) Police Arrest Yorktown Bank Robbery Suspect
Mark Sindaco, the 33-year-old man wanted for Monday’s robbery of a TD Bank branch in Jefferson Valley was caught Tuesday morning. Police received an anonymous tip from a person who recognized a photo of the suspect that appeared in a Yorktown-Somers Patch story, which resulted in the arrest of Sindaco.

3.) Vote Held on Hiring of Peekskill Planning Director as Putnam County Planning Head
The Putnam County Board of Legislators was scheduled to vote Tuesday on the hiring of Peekskill Planning Director Anthony Ruggiero as the new county planning commissioner. Check back for updates on the result of Tuesday’s vote later today.

4.) Con Edison to Fly Helicopter Over Verplanck
Con Edison has notified the Verplanck Residents Association that it will be flying helicopter overhead in order to do some emergency repairs on transmission across the river. The work will take place today and Thursday.

5.) Peekskill High School to be Featured on MSG Varsity’s ‘The Challenge’
Peekskill High School squares off against  John Jay High School today on MSG Varsity’s “The Challenge.” The high school quiz match airs at 6:30 p.m. on Cablevision’s Optimum, Channel 14.
