Jefferson Valley Mall Renovations Proposed, Public Hearing Set

The Jefferson Valley Mall could undergo a major facelift—that includes a 20,000-square foot expansion, outdoor space and new retailers—pending Town of Yorktown approval. 

The renovation plan calls to add 20,000 square feet to the building that would accommodate three new restaurants and an outdoor plaza. It also includes renovations to the parking lot, Route 6 berm and planting of 79 additional trees in the parking lot. 

The mall's main entrance (facing Lee Boulevard) will receive a new look, according to the plan. It will be reworked to include additional retail and dining space, along with a reoriented main entry that will replace the existing one. The mall will also be opened to the public with all of the facade facing Route 6.

"[The facade] is being modestly brought forward to encompass new restaurants and other retail stores with their own signage and windows/doors to present a new shopping and dining experience," said Yorktown attorney Al Capellini, who is representing the Simon Property Group, which owns the Jefferson Valley Mall.

The outdoor area adjoining the new entrance will allow for outdoor dining, Capellini said. The names of the new restaurants have not been revealed yet. 

"The aim of the present project is to put on a new face to reflect the expectations of shoppers and diners today," he said.

Yorktown town board members will hold a public hearing on the amended site plan for the renovations on Tuesday, Oct. 15 after they and planning board members reviewed the plan last month.
