Peekskill Budget Passes; Clausen, Simpkins and Pereira Win BOE Seats

Peekskill residents approved the school district's $78.4 million budget proposal for 2013-2014 during Tuesday's budget vote, according to unofficial results.

The budget represents a $4,077,735, or 5.49 percent, more than this year’s budget.

The tax levy will increase by about 3.43 percent to $37,431,286, which is within the state’s mandated property tax cap. Residents will see their tax rates increase by 3.66 percent.

In the school board race, incumbent Michael Simpkins, Jillian Clausen and Maria Pereira were elected to three-year terms on the school board.

They beat out Adriana Ariza, Shannon Casiano and Rolv (Nick) Nicolaysen.
