Yorktown Teen Center members are having their Open Mic series at Solaris Sports Club where they will perform their songs. The teens usually perform in the nutrition center at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center, but due to renovations, they're relocating

-American Craft Week Opening

When/Where: Oct. 15-16, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Peekskill Clay Studios at the Hat Factory

Why Go: The Peekskill Clay Studios is featuring 11 local and area artists in honor of American Craft Week. The event is an effort to recognize the importance of handmade objects that enrich our daily lives and contribute to our national aesthetic and economy. All items will be on display and on sale from Oct. 15 to Oct. 31. More information at peekskillclaystudios.com

When/Where: 1271 Hanover St, Yorktown Heights, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why go: Support your local business and pick out fresh produce. Hilltop Hanover’s farm stand is open for the season. The farm stand will be open every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. throughout the summer and fall. All produce is grown on the farm and is grown without the use of pesticides, synthesized fertilizers or herbicides.

Why Go: Get dizzy watching the young acrobats cartwheel through the gym to raise money for the Wounded Warriors project. This is the 25th year Gymnastics City is throwing the charitable event.

-The Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze: 4,000 jack-o-lanterns light up Van Cortlandtville Manor

Where/When:  Van Cortlandt Manor, Croton-on-Hudson, Fri-Sun. all month

Tours from 6:30-9:30pm

Why go: As part of one of the largest, most talked about Halloween events in the entire Hudson Valley, historic Van Cortlandtville Manor becomes home to 4,000 carved jack o’ lanterns. Wander through the grounds and prepare to be amazed, (and maybe even a little bit frightened). Tours go from 6:30-9:30 each evening. This is a rain or shine and admission is by advance timed ticket only. The event runs until early Nov., but tickets sell out fast, so don’t delay!

Pricing: $16, $12 ages 5-7, free ages 4 and under weekdays and Sunday. $20, $16 ages 5-7, free ages 4 and under Saturdays

Why Go:  The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk is the largest breast cancer event in New York and New Jersey – raising more “green” for the cause than any other organization in the two states - $18.3 million in 2010. More pink will help uninsured women gain access to mammograms and help provide cancer support in many other ways.

Why go: Carve a pumpkin using vegetables, visit with our birds of prey, listen to local musicians and brave the zipline! Delicious food, local vendors, animals, festivities and more await you at our annual Festival.

When/Where: 611 Granite Springs Rd. in Yorktown Heights, Oct 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Why go:  is holding its second annual Wine Tasting on Sunday, Oct. 16 to raise money for its programs and services. Amy Dixon, a blind Sommelier, and her guide dog, Elvis, will lead the event. Attendees will receive a tour of Guiding Eyes for the Blind’s facility and are invited to watch training demonstrations by the organization's elite guide dogs.
