Rainbows at Croton Dam

Rapidly gushing water over the Croton Dam at Croton Gorge Park is forming rainbows over the base of the dam.

Water is rapidly gushing over the Croton Dam at Croton Gorge Park, forming rainbows at its base. The area received about 3-4 inches of rain overnight, causing the rapid water flow.

The Croton Dam was the first masonry dam in the United States. Completed in 1842, it was the prototype for many municipal water supply dams in the east during the mid-nineteenth century, according to Westchester County Parks and Recreation Department. The Croton Reservoir has a capacity of about 34 billion gallons of water with a watershed covering 375 miles.

If you go to check it out today wear a rain coat, because you will get soaked.
