Here are our suggestions on where to find fun for the whole family this weekend.

Peekskill Italian Festival: A three day celebration in honor of the Feast of the Assumption

Where/When: Brown Street, Peekskill; Friday, August 12, 5 p.m. – 11 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 12 p.m. – 11 p.m., and Sunday, August 14, 12 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Why go: This Downtown festival boasts over 22 hours of free entertainment including live music, magicians, marionette theatre, and dance.  On Saturday and Sunday afternoons between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. cartoon characters, stilt walkers, balloon makers, clowns, and a face painter will be joining the festival fun. For a $100 you can buy a chance to win a new Charger or Mustang Convertible, or a $25,000 cash prize in the festival’s raffle. Preserving the Harvest: A how-to session on canning your harvest

Where/When: Hilltop Hannover Farm, Yorktown Heights; Saturday, August 13, 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Why go: In this how-to series you will learn how to preserve your harvest from a canning professional.  Join others interested in preserving fruits and veggies. While at the farm don’t forget to visit Hilltop’s U-Pick vegetable garden and farm stand. Space for the class is limited and advance registration is required.

Movies for Kids (and their Families): The Jacob Burns Center presents Black Swan

Where/When:  , Pleasantville; Saturday, August 13, 12 p.m. & Sunday, August 14, 12 p.m.

Why go: This weekend the theatre will be holding two noon showings of the 1942 classic, The Black Swan. The flick features plenty of action as a Jamaican governor tries to rid the Caribbean of pesky pirates. Movie goers of all ages will enjoy this film, and it is a must see for all of those who are fans of the modern Pirates of the Caribbean movies.  Pricing: $1 kids, $11 adults, $6 members

History Under the Stars Sleepover: An overnight camping adventure

Where/When: John Jay Homestead State Historic Site, Katonah; Saturday, August 13, 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 14, 10 a.m

Why go: Grab your sleeping bag and bring the whole family out for a night of camping at historical figure John Jay’s house. No tent? No problem! Those who own sleeping bags are welcome to spend the night in the home’s 19th-century barn. While there, tour the historic house and beautiful grounds, partake in colonial crafts, and enjoy some traditional campfire fun.

: A fundraiser to benefit the community service efforts of Yorktown based nonprofit, Love In Action

Where/When: 2084 Crompond Rd, Yorktown Heights; Saturday, August 13, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Why go: The nonprofit organization, Love In Action will be holding a car wash fundraiser so that they have the resources to continue helping the Yorktown community by providing free services to those in need. Their charitable acts have included everything from babysitting to mowing lawns to home repairs. Help them help others and give your car a refreshing shine at the same time.

The Lee Pompei Memorial Car Show: The best in show autos from the greater NY Metropolitan Region

Where/When: Mahopac Volunteer Fire Station on Route 6, Mahopac; Sunday, August 14, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Why go: The Lee Pompei Memorial Car Show presents the best of show cars from the greater NY Metropolitan Region at the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Station. At the show trophies will be awarded in a number of categories, and five special awards will be presented including an award by Carmel Town Supervisor Ken Schmitt. Guests can also look forward to raffles and prizes. Proceeds will go to benefit Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam.  Pre-registration is required if you are interested in entering a car, and space is limited.

Putnam County International Wine & Food Festival: A two day festival celebrating local and international food and wine

Where/When: Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park, Carmel; Saturday, August 13, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. & Sunday, August 14, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m

Why go: For the first time this annual two-day festival will be taking place at the Putnam County Veterans Memorial Park. The weekend will include visits from some of New York State’s finest wineries, local and international retailers, food, and arts and crafts vendors. There will also be live local music and children’s activities as well. A portion of the event’s proceeds will go to benefit Feed the Children "Americans Feeding Americans" campaign, and Putnam Community Action Program. Ticket prices for adults 21+ include admission, parking, wine tasting, a keepsake wine glass, an event program and a gift bag. Camping will be available at the event as well. Pre-teen Night: A night of Karaoke, dancing and ice cream for youth ages 9 - 13

Where/When: Nellie’s Café, Peekskill; Sunday, August 14, 6 p.m – 9 p.m.

Why go: Youth ages 9 to 13 are invited to a fun night of Karaoke at Nellie’s Café. There will be music played in the main dining room for those who enjoy dancing, and board games will be available too. Dessert is included in the cover charge. Please call in advance as space is limited.

Create Your Own Garden Container Class/Workshop: A how-to session for crafty container gardeners

Where/When: Hilltop Farms: Garden Supply & Marketplace, Croton-on-Hudson; Saturday, August 13, 10 a.m.–12 p.m.

Why go: Garden enthusiasts are encouraged to come learn how to make and use Hypertufa containers in their own gardens. These stone-looking containers consist of a blend of cement, peat moss and perlite. Besides from looking great in a garden, deck or patio, these containers are fun and easy to make and totally safe for your plants. Please wear old clothes and bring water proof gloves and a spade. All other necessary supplies will be provided. Preregistration is required. Please rsvp by August 8.

Saturday Road Ride: An early morning, group bicycle ride with Danny’s Cycles

Where/When: , Mohegan Lake; Saturday, August 13, 7:30 a.m. – 9: 30 a.m.

Why go: Grab your bike and get out into the fresh morning air. If you don’t have wheels of your own, no worries, Danny’s Cycles rent bikes as well. This early Saturday ride will cover roughly 17 to 25 miles, depending on the level of the riders participating. You DO need to have a few items in order to attend, including your own: helmet, water, and emergency tool kit and cell phone. There will be waivers to sign upon arrival, and the event will be cancelled if there is rain. Anyone interested in attending is asked to RSVP prior to the event, and will be expected to meet in front of Danny's Cycles at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday to be ready to begin riding by 8am.
