What: The United States Army’s touring big bad is playing for free at PMS

When/Where: Peekskill Middle School, Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.

Why Go: The internationally acclaimed U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors of Washington, D.C., promises a good show. The group presents a diverse program of big band swing, Latin music, contemporary jazz, popular tunes, standards, Dixieland, and patriotic selections.

Dylan’s Wine Tasting

What: First Annual Grand Tasting Event
When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 5, 1-4 p.m., Taromina Restaurant, 59 Hudson Ave., Peekskill
Why Go: Over 15 wine and spirit importers and distributors with over 70 wines opened to sample. Don't miss this event!! All products will be offered at a special price and a percentage of our sales for the day will be donated to Fred's Pantry.


What: 5th Annual free health and wellness event

Where/When: Saturday, Nov. 5, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Pugsley Park (1038 Main Street)

Why Go: Enjoy a one-mile fun walk through downtown Peekskill and lots of free events such as health screening, wellness workshops, raffles, and cooking demonstrations. Also featured will be DJ Pete, refreshments and WHUD Emcee, Kacy Morbaito. Come out and support the local community and a great cause. 

The Chocolate World Expo

When/Where:  Sunday, November 5 from 11a.m.-6 p.m. at the Westchester County Center in White Plains

Why Go:   One word:  chocolate.  This expo features 65 vendor booths offering tastings and sales of gourmet chocolates, baked goods, specialty foods, gelato, cheeses, wines and much more.  Lots of gifts for sale— from bonbons to baked goods; wine, cheese and specialty foods.

Price:  $15 adults, $10 for age 5-11, free for age 4 and under.   www.chocolateworldexpo.com

 

What: A presentation on the life of American poet and naturalist Walt Whitman.

When/Where: Sunday, November 6, 2 pm, Little Red School House at 297 Locust Ave, Cortlandt Manor

Why Go: Ted Winser, a tour guide at Constitution Island and Bear Mountain State Park, who is a Walt Whitman look-a-like will present an on-going discussion on the various aspects of the life of the noted American poet and naturalist. Whitman, who lived from 1819 to 1892, wrote "Leaves of Grass."  A prominent statue of him stands along the main trail at the Bear Mountain Trailside Museum and Zoo. The event is free.

 

Last Leaf Hike

When/Where:  Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Teatown Lake Reservation in Ossining

Why Go:  Take a hike in the crisp fall air and search for the last falling leaves. Look for the last flowers of fall and the first signs of winter.

Price:  Free for members; $5 for nonmembers. Call 914-762-2912 ext. 110 to make a reservation


Wine Tasting Party at The Peekskill Museum

What: A wine tasting party amongst historic artifacts at the museum.

Where/When: Peekskill Museum, 124 Union Ave., Peekskill, Sunday Nov. 6

Starts at 4 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about Peekskill’s intriguing history while you enjoy a fine selection of wines from D. Bertoline & Sons and Dylan’s Wine Cellar. All proceeds from event will be applied to the Museum’s general fund to support future programs and to preserve the rich history of Peekskill. 

Suggested donation of $20 per person 

 

What: Free women’s self defense class at the new Westchester Martial Arts

Where/When: , 1000 N Division St Ste G, Peekskill

Why Go: Martial Arts of Westchester will hold a grand opening on Nov. 5 and is then offering a free women’s self defense class the next day, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $15 per person or $25 mother/daughter and all proceeds will go to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
