Cooling Centers Open Friday

Cooling centers in the area are open today (Friday, July 19).

Peekskill officials noted Thursday that today's temperatures are slated to reach 104 degrees. The cooling center, located at the Neighborhood Center (4 Nelson Avenue, in the Richard E. Hayes Building Plaza), will be open from 1 to 9 p.m.

"We're urging residents to keep hydrated and to check on their neighbors, especially the elderly," City Manager Anthony Ruggiero said in a special statement. He reminded folks that the spray park at Lepore Park and the public pool are available for residents "looking to keep cool."

In the Town of Cortlandt, the cooling center is located at the Muriel H. Moribito Community Center (29 West Brook Drive in Cortlandt Manor). It's open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
