See what your local student athletes — and their biggest supporters — are up to today.
Welcome to Patch's daily digest of everything sports-related in Peekskill and Cortlandt. Parents, coaches and boosters are encouraged to submit scores, standings and other news,
The latest chapter of one of the longest-existing, storied Section 1 rivalries in Lakeland/Panas resulted in a 2-0 Walter Panas win for the girls soccer team. The two schools, which double-up in several sports, have been mega rivals since the inception of varsity sports at each program.
Walter Panas' Amanda Bauza popped both goals, propelling Panas to the 2-0 shutout. She was assisted by Rachel Myers. Panas knocked in goals during each half and netminder Emily Ressegue registered a game-high 7 saves.

Lacrosse Player to Sign with UConn
Stay tuned for an interview with Lakeland/Panas lacrosse standout Alexa Bonnes, who has made a verbal commitment to play at UConn next year. Bonnes, an innate dodger who carved up defenses to the tune of 58 goals and 14 assists (including a six-goal outburst against Bronxville and seven games of four or more goals), will sign a national letter of intent with UConn soon.
Alumni Updates:
With the start of men's college basketball season, Peekskill natives are eager to see how homegrown product Mookie Jones performs at Syracuse. Following the righteous steps of Peekskill products and NBA players Elton Brand and Hilton Armstrong (who, like Jones, played in the Big East at UConn) we hope to see the 6-foot-8, 220-pound Jones, who stretched defenses out with his perimeter game and blocked, manipulated, influenced, and altered the trajectory of shots during his stay at Peekskill, earn more meaningful burn this year. Jones played varsity for Lou Panzanaro since he was an eighth grader but fell out of favor early at Syracuse. Now a junior, he could wrestle for minutes on a loaded Orange squad projected to finish first in the Big East, according to the preseason polls. For more on Big East media day, check out some news from Adam Zagoria at www.zagsblog.com.
The hoops hotbed of Peekskill has also produced an innate scorer in pint-sized guard Da'quan Brickhouse. Brickhouse, also a stellar high jumper in track, originally committed to Central Connecticut State. Brickhouse is currently playing under city coach Kenny Wilcox at ASA College in Manhattan.
