[UPDATE] Police ID Man Killed in Cortlandt Manor Fire

A bungalow at Putnam Road and Strang Lane was gutted by a fire this morning.

UPDATE: 6:30 a.m. , Jan. 5: According to a report from News 12, police have identified the victim in Friday morning's fatal fire in Cortlandt Manor as James Phillips. Check back for more information as it becomes available.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: State Police have yet to identify the man killed in a house fire that ignited earlier this morning in Cortlandt Manor.

“We pulled up and we have fully involved fire on the first floor,” Rimm said. “We worked our way in through the entryway and that’s where we found the body. As far we know, he was the only one living there.”

Rimm said it is unclear where or how the fire started and the Westchester County Cause and Origin team is still conducting its investigation.

Firefighters battled their way into a blazing house fire at 6:40 a.m. and found the sole resident dead on the first floor.

Police haven't released the man's identity, pending notification of next of kin. 

He was the sole occupant of the house at 215 Sprout Brook Road in Cortlandt Manor. 

About 75 firefighters from departments including Garrison, Lake Mohegan, Putnam Valley, Peekskill and Buchanan responded to the blaze, Continental Village Fire Chief Chris Rimm said.
