Croton, Buchanan Pass Budgets

Croton officials approved an $18.1 million budget, which represents a 4.63 percent increase, and Buchanan officials approved an $8 million budget, which represents an 2.6 percent decrease.

Both villages in the Town of Cortlandt approved their budget for the 2013-2013 fiscal year Monday night.

Croton-on-Hudson trustees approved an $18,158,071 budget during their meeting Monday. The proposal is about $112,000 less than the tentative budget plan that was submitted in March and represents a year to year increase of about 4.63 percent.

The tax levy for the proposal is $10,875,539, which is 2.41 percent more than this year’s tax levy and underneath the state’s mandated tax cap of 2.5 percent.

The tax rate under the spending plan would increase from about $240.75 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $246.54.

Buchanan’s budget $8,062,790 carries a tax levy of $1,959,200, which is above the cap of $1,818,217 set by the state. The spending represents a decrease of about 2.66 percent from this year's budget.

The tax rate per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which is currently at $224.95, would increase by about $18, according to Buchanan Mayor Sean Murray.
