Dealing with Grief: Peekskill School Staff, Students

Peekskill school staff, students and parents have been grieving the sudden death of a popular high school guidance counselor.

Lenroy Stevens died Tuesday in a crash on Route 9A. Stevens, 27, was a White Plains resident.

District officials posted this statement on the district website, including a link to information designed to help adults and older students deal with trauma such as sudden death, and to help teachers and parents help younger children.

"It is with a very heavy heart that the Peekskill City School District faces the sudden loss of Lenroy Stevens who served as a guidance counselor and friend to many of our students and colleagues. We will all be keeping Lenroy and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this time. On May 14, District Administrators and BOCES grief counselors met with the high school staff to try and understand the loss of a dear person and to help our high school family, students and staff, cope and begin the healing process. At this time, we would like to share this information to help our staff, students, parents and community members deal with this loss."
