County Police Charge Local Man in Vacuum Theft

Other blotter items include a speed enforcement detail on Watch Hill Road and a suspicious vehicle on McGuire Lane.

A 40-year-old Mohegan Lake man is accused of stealing a vacuum cleaner, valued at $599, from the Kohl's department store in Cortlandt Manor, according to police.

The crime occurred at about 6 p.m. Thursday Dec. 5, Westchester County Police said in a statement. A man left the store with item, "jumped into a waiting car and fled," security personnel told authorities.

Detectives in the General Investigations Unit took the case. They arrested the defendant at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10. He is facing misdemeanor charges of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and petty larceny.

Monday, Dec. 2, 12:28 p.m. — A Mohegan Lake resident reported to Westchester County Police that she feels she is being harassed by a neighbor because he has filed complaints about her dog with the town’s code enforcement officer. An officer explained that the neighbor was within his rights to lodge a complaint if the dog barks excessively.

5:21 p.m. — Westchester County Police served a family court-issued temporary order of protection to a resident of Mt. Airy Road that bars her from having any contact with a relative who petitioned the court.

Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1 p.m. — Westchester County Police conducted speed enforcement along Watch Hill Road. Five summonses were issued over the next hour.

Friday, Dec. 6, 5:36 p.m. — A resident reported a suspicious vehicle was parked at the dead end of McGuire Lane. The vehicle was gone upon an officer’s arrival.

Sunday, Dec. 8, 6:37 p.m. —County police responded to a two-car accident in the Cortlandt Town Center in front of Old Navy. No one was injured.
