After Pursuit in Peekskill, Cops Seek Cortlandt Manor Suspect
Peekskill Police say a 53-year-old Cortlandt Manor man is wanted in connection with a larceny that occurred on Main Street around 12:50 a.m. Friday.
Here's what officials said about the incident:
"While on patrol Officer [Fabian] Gonzalez observed a white male breaking into a parked vehicle in the rear parking lot of 951 Main Street. Upon seeing Officer Gonzalez the individual entered an older model sedan and fled the scene at a high rate of speed, heading west on Central Avenue. Officer Gonzalez headed in the direction of flight and found that the subject had crashed his vehicle into a Business on North Water Street, Dains Lumber Yard. The subject exited the vehicle carrying a duffel bag and fled on foot. The subject climbed over a fence near the Lincoln Depot Museum, jumped into a nearby stream and entered an underground tunnel which was filled with water, where Officer Gonzalez lost sight of him. Two MTA Police K-9 units assisted with the search. The search was ultimately terminated due to safety concerns."
Officials are seeking Michael Verella of Cortlandt Manor in connection. Pending charges include fleeing a police an officer in a motor vehicle, fourth-degree criminal mischief, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, petty larceny and reckless driving, misdemeanors.

Authorities say $100 in small bills was taken from the vehicle.
