Peekskill Homeowners: Register for New York State STAR Exemption

The City of Peekskill invites local homeowners to a free workshop to learn about and register for STAR—the New York State School Tax Relief program. It includes a school property tax rebate and a partial property exemption from school taxes.

New legislation requires all homeowners receiving a basic STAR exemption to register with the state's Department of Taxation in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years. The STAR registration program impacts more than 2.6 million homeowners statewide; senior citizens are NOT impacted.

The registration program is a state initiative designed to protect New Yorkers from fraud and waste in the STAR program, according to Governor Cuomo's office.
