Rita's Italian Ice, the latest addition to the Beach Shopping Center, opened its doors for the first time Monday morning and saw a great response from the community.
That's according to owner Joe DeAngelis, who said hundreds of people stopped by.
"We've been extremely busy all day," DeAngelis said of the soft opening, which offered free Italian ice.
About half a dozen employees served up the refreshing treats to local folks, who waited in line to choose from 24 Italian ice flavors and four custard choices. Mango and strawberry were the most popular picks as of about 2 p.m.
DeAngelis, a Dutchess County resident, was happy the big day had finally arrived. Construction in the shop started in April.
A grand opening will likely take place in five to six weeks.
The Beach Shopping Center is located on Main Street in Peekskill. The shop is open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
