As part of its grand opening, the studio is offering a free trial class and an introductory price of $49 a month, with unlimited classes and a $24.50 startup fee, for anyone who signs up this week. For those familiar with Adrenalin, the kickboxing studio is located at the gym’s old location on 8 John Walsh Blvd.

“We find a lot of our members who just start at Adrenalin and are lost on the gym floor,” Jen Clark, one of the gym’s partners and one-half of the JENeration Fit personal training studio. “They really don’t know what to do with all of the equipment so they like that class atmosphere and, also, they find that being able to punch and kick something is a lot fun.”

The first CKO Kickboxing was formed in Hoboken, NJ in 1997. There are currently 50 franchises in New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and South Carolina.

John Hegel, who started Adrenalin with Carlos Santiago, said the idea to open a kickboxing studio came after he partnered with Jennifer Clark and Jennifer Minihan to open Adrenalin’s new location at 5 John Walsh Blvd. Clark and Minihan hooked up with Adrenalin after they found that they needed a permanent location.

“We had done away with 90 percent of the group fitness classes at Adrenalin, but there was still a need in the market for it,” Hegel said. “But we wanted to do something unique. There’s a lot of people offering the same programs, but the old group fitness programs just don’t work the way they used to and the kickboxing offer the resistance training as well as plyometrics.”

There are ample Muy Thai kickboxing bags at the studio, with classes starting as early as 5:15 a.m. and as late as 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. There will also be two morning classes on Saturday.

Minihan said the classes can burn as much as 1,200 calories in an hour, making it ideal for people with busy schedules.

“We already have our trainer set up and Jen, John and I will all take a class,” Minihan said. “We’ve lined up some phenomenal trainers from all different backgrounds. We have male and female trainers and right now, we kick-off with about 30 classes in a week—no class will be the same.”

In addition to the kickboxing classes, there will be a nutritionist in place to help people develop a program for eating and living a more healthy lifestyle.

“You can’t out train a bad diet and diet is very important part of obtaining the physique you want,” Minihan said. “If you enroll in the 10 week program, you’ll be educated on the foods you should be eating, you’ll keep a food diary that will be reviewed by a nutritionist, we’ll be taking body fat and measurements and we’ll set goals.”
