Rebels Rebound After a disappointing 6-5 loss on their senior night to Suffern, the Lakeland/Panas boys lacrosse squad rebounded by winning its regular-season finale at Somers 7-5 on May 12 according to highschoolsports.net. Brian Prunty (1G, 2A) and Tony LaGuerre (2G, 1A) each had three points for the Rebels. Chris Monteferante tallied two goals with teammate Michael Zingaro making 24 saves. Sean Murphy and James Flaherty also scored for the Rebels. We know she'll be great there: The Hendrick Hudson Athletic Department is pleased to announce that senior cheerleader, Mikela Ryan, has committed to Fordham University where she will join the Fordham Rams cheerleading team. Mikela will be cheering at Fordham football and basketball games, as well as competing in the national collegiate arena. “Mikela is a fine student-athlete and has been a wonderful role model for our community. An Arizona high school baseball team forfeited a game to avoid playing against a girl.
The National League was founded in February of 1876, and since the senior circuit kicked off baseball in this country women have gained equal rights and made a huge impact on the sports landscape both in the United States and abroad. Recently a story came out of Arizona where Our Lady of Sorrows Academy forfeited a state championship game, refusing to play Mesa Prep solely because the team’s starting second basemen is a girl. Mesa Prep is a Phoenix high school and the school does not have a softball team, so Paige Sulzbach, a 15-year-old girl decided to try her hand in baseball. Not only did Sulzbach make the team but she is the squad’s starting second basewoman. Out of respect for Our Lady of Sorrows, Sulzbach sat out during Mesa Prep’s …
Fans look for special items, meet former players at Westchester County Center.
Baseball card collectors mingled with hockey card fans as they walked the aisles looking at tables of collectible sports memorabilia at the Baseball Card and Sports Memorabilia Show at the Westchester County Center in White Plains on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Others stood in line to get autographs from former big-league players who smiled, shook hands and posed for pictures as fans recollected their favorite moments with the former athletes.
Police team includes officers who live in Westchester and Rockland.
The NYPD baseball team, composed of police officers from throughout the city who play many fundraising games, made its first visit to Provident Bank Park in Pomona on Saturday to play a charity exhibition game against the Rockland Boulders. The Boulder's Keith Brachold went 4-for-4 in his Boulders debut, coming to the team from the Brockton Rox. In seven games at Provident Bank Park in 2011, he batted .520, going 13-for-25. Todd Gossage and Scott Clement hit back-to-back homers and the Boulders had 18 hits in a 17-8 final over the NYPD team. To make the NYPD team, cops must try out for spots on the squad. Although they play many games in the metropolitan area, the team also travels across the country to play fundraising games. The team …

Welcome to Patch's daily snapshot of sports in Peekskill and Cortlandt. Red Devils Fall Host Peekskill fell to traditional baseball powerhouse Lakeland 11-4 on May 8. Peekskill scored all four of its runs in the third inning, two of them coming home on a Nick Soto triple, driving in Richie Simmons and Anthony Murphy. A double by Kevin Slocum then knocked in Soto. Slocum scored Peekskill's final run on a wild pitch. Fishing Derby We thank Peekskill senior recreation leader Ray Glashoff for the below submission: It was a memorable day for all those who participated in the City of Peekskill Recreation’s annual MELVIN T. BOLDEN ALL AMERICAN FISHING DERBY at Lake Mitchell in Depew Park on May 5, 2012. There were a total of 83 participants that ranged in age from 2 to 14 years old. After the last fish was caught, a total of 79 fish were recorded in hopes of catching the biggest one. There were winners in each age group and prizes to the most fish caught and largest fish were awarded. In the 4-year old and under age group, Princess Golden had the most and Albert Perez caught the …

Welcome to Patch's daily snapshot of sports in Peekskill and Cortlandt. Hen Hud Softball It was truly fun for all that attended the First Annual Yorktown Invitational Tournament. Between the softball, the food, the people and the great music provided and public address work done by Kevin T. Van Meter, it was a wonderful experience. Hendrick Hudson's softball squad played Yorktown in the championship game of the tournament on May 5 and came away with a 10-0 triumph against the Huskers to take home the title. The Sailors (12-4) jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead and with eighth-grade sensation Gabby Caruso on the mound, that was more then enough runs.
