The 200-year history of the Peekskill Fire Department is evident: The names of fire horses remain on the walls of theMore Hook and Ladder firehouse. Today the Department has 24 career firefighters and approximately 200 volunteers who operate five firehouses in the city of Peekskill, with five engines, one aerial platform, two paramedic fly cars and one utility vehicle. The city owns four firehouses and rents space in a privately owned fifth firehouse.  Plans are in motion to replace four of the five firehouses with a central firehouse. The six fire companies in the city of Peekskill are as follows:</p> <p>Columbian Engine Co. 1</p> <p>Cortlandt Hook & Ladder Co. 1</p> <p>Washington Engine Co.  2</p> <p>Columbian Hose Co. 1</p> <p>Centennial Hose Co. 4</p> <p>Peekskill Fire Patrol</p>

The Peekskill Fire Department is almost 200 years old, with the names of fire horses still hung on the walls in its HookMore & Ladder company house. Today, it has 24 career firefighters and approximately 200 volunteers that operate five firehouses in the city of Peekskill, with five engines, one aerial platform, two paramedic fly cars and one utility vehicle. The city owns four firehouses and rents space in a privately owned fifth firehouse.  Plans to replace four of the five firehouses with a central firehouse are in motion. The department has three chiefs, six captains, six first lieutenants, six second lieutenants, 12 trustees, one career supervisor, four assistant shift supervisors, and one municipal training officers. It also has committee chairpersons who are responsible for special assignments. Lenny Varella is the chief, Robert Fiorio is the first assistant chief, and Vinny Malaspina is the second assistant chief.

This regional office of the New York Codes Division provides a variety of services related to New York's Uniform FireMore Prevention and Building Code and State Energy Conservation Construction Code to Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties. The Division provides technical assistance, administers variances, delivers educational courses, oversees the enforcement practices of local governments and serves as secretariat to the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council.
