Indian Point Nuclear Energy Center has three nuclear reactors that are owned and operated by Entergy, LLC.

More <p>Indian Point #1 was the first commercial reactor in the world to receive a construction permit. On line in 1962, it was retired in 1974. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's role is to enable the United States to use radioactive materials for theMore benefits they offer, like nuclear energy, while ensuring that the environment and people are protected. It was created as an independent agency by Congress in 1974, 12 years after Indian Point One in Buchanan was built. Today, Indian Point Energy Center houses two operating units, Unit 2 and 3.  Indian Point operating unit 1 was decommissioned in 1974.</p> <p>Today, the NRC has officials who work at Indian Point to ensure that the Entergy-owned nuclear power plant remains safe and secure and is operating within regulations.  </p> <p>The NRC is headquartered in Rockville, Md., with other offices around the United States.</p> <p>Visit NRC's website for more information. </p>
