Say it ain't so Jack, they had ever intention of keeping this under wraps. They had no choice weRead More were supported by John Testa, Linda Puglisi with valid letters of support, backed by a petition signed by 1000 and vocal residents that attended city meetings. Ask Mary how much this is costing the taxpayers and you may just think differently. Even when I approached Mary initially she said "Oh Wendy I thought it was going to be a counseling center". Come on the lady runs the city she knows everything. Everything aside the traffic in that area is horrible during rush hour. Every RN, cop, trooper I have ever spoken to said needs to be in a medical facility with an ER.
sayitsnotsojack May 24, 2013 at 07:24 am
No matter if you think Foster and Company are responsible for the clinic mess or not one must giveRead More them credit for at least in the end trying to listen to the public and stop it. There cannot be any doubt that Hudson Valley Medical threw the city and its’ residents under the big bus strictly for their own self-interests. Remember it next time the center starts to tell us how important; we citizens are to them I for one will not ever again donate to them. What better place for the clinic than in the medical center where a plethora of medical assistance is available should one of the addicts suddenly need it?

"Concerned Parent I have recently seen groups hanging out on street corners like I did duringRead More the late 80's" LOOSE DOGS too. People are letting their pit bulls and other dogs romp around. From what I gather many people don't even know there is a leash law. Others who know about the laws just flip them off. Kids are going to start getting bit bad again
W Kelly May 18, 2013 at 08:06 am
Concerned Parent I have recently seen groups hanging out on street corners like I did during theRead More late 80's. PPD better get a grip on this situation ASAP before it begins to be a common place occurrance. Thanks for mentioning I wrote to C Johansen. Sorry folks for getting off the subject. This is an important issue in any case.
Peter Goodson May 17, 2013 at 07:15 pm
Wendy you have been right on the money with this issue since it started. You and your organizationRead More were correct in pointing out how Foster, Klaxton, Rigger and the rest have tried to fool the community that they were fighting this. They also have no problem wasting tens of thousands of dollars to perpetuate their ruse. Don't forget, their political buddy Ruth Wells (dem party offiicer and former council candidate) is on the board of the homeless shelter and vice chair of the Planning Commission. The entire commission are their appointees. Of course they all knew what was going on. They even through their own friends under the bus. One even resigned in disgust. They will appeal to keep the ruse going as a means of deflecting for the election. It is essential the residents of northern Peekskill that this administration did this to them. Foster and the council put citizen safety at risk all for the political funds and support they gain from those involved. Disgraceful.

Did you happen to contact your credit card company and ask for a refund. I did, and I got it. IRead More don't think it is fair to the new management company to expect them to refund monies owed by the folks who ran the Paramount previously. What I might expect is that they will try to compensate folks with tickets to future events.
Liz Claire May 24, 2013 at 01:52 am
Gail, Look at the fine print on your ticket. Who was promoting te event? If it was the ParamountRead More and it says refundable, you should write to the Mayor and ask for refund. Include a copy of your ticket. If the ticket was non-refundable, vote her out of office. The former Paramount went bankrupt. You would be a creditor that lost money. Ask your accountant if you can write it off as a loss on your taxes.

all this drug related issues in Peekskill will surely hurt our home values..just when the valuesRead More were reporting going up...this is not good news.. Peekskill or years had a horrible reputation and I bought into the promise of Peekskill reemerging. some many great things have occurred .. but this constant drug involvement fact has me wondering and very concerned..
jo May 24, 2013 at 07:23 am
somehow when I spotted the story.. I knew it was about Peekskill.. yikes..
Teleman May 23, 2013 at 08:07 pm
Oh, local talent? even better!
James Willis, superintendent of Peekskill schools.
The Entertainer May 24, 2013 at 07:25 am
I bet he gets some golden parachute! Your timing is perfect James, walk away in the middle of aRead More scandal. What is it with school district superintendents these days? We go through them like a pair of socks. This guy should've stuck it out, stood by his people, but he's taking the easy way out.
shakemdown May 23, 2013 at 02:02 pm
once again the children of this city get screwed by the school system, he didn't have any thoughtsRead More about staying for the whole term. you could see that by the way he was conducting himself at the board meetings when he show up that is. he didn't give a rat's ass about the children and this city in general. all he cared about was his pay check.and the worst part is, that he get's to keep most of it when he leaves just like judy johnson, they both did a woody allen, "took the money and ran," and we the tax payer once again is left holding the bag. i agree, DR. FINE would be the perfect person to take the helm, i have seen him and have dealt with him and i have found him to be a true professional educator. that's what is needed in this city so that our children can get the right education and not some half-ass one.
Tina Bongar May 23, 2013 at 09:06 am
Great points Kirsten, thanks -- It just astounds me as my experience with the Middle SchoolRead More principal Dr Fine is that he's so bright, energetic, purposeful, compassionate, a good listener, engaged in the community, all the qualities which are a mark of a good education! Why can't Dr Fine be promoted for instance? From my position as a taxpayer who believes a good education to be the most important aspect of our America citizenship, the great equalizer as it were, I just feel like an idealistic dope when I hear about these atrocities in the district. (If I hear one more story about "advisors" wanting to give a 7 year old Ritalin because someone lacks the leadership skills to get them to sit down for instance...) But essentially, what my take from parents with kids in the system is that we need to completely rehaul the district's administrative framework. When someone brings this up, a huge amount of fear is created -- by the administration -- with everyone running to the unions. Just like when the point of having a Charter School (all the kids will be hurt in 4 years!) but why is it the district isn't open to incorporating the aspects of a Charter education because the point is the current system isn't working for some parents? Please don't quickly dismiss me too because I'm pointing out something that supports Charter Schools, it too easy to make it so black and white, and gets these administrators off the hook. The point is that the reasons for wanting a Charter should be incorporated in the conversation of improving education! This guy Willis never said anything that made me think he cared about these parents! Now that I'm on my soapbox, I want to tell the unions that I think teachers should be paid more, given more power to determine what "administrative support systems" work and that obviously teaching to standardized tests is not working (let the Harvard School of Education tell them that though). I feel I need to say these things because we are letting so many of our kids down by not engaging them. I so want to hear some proposed solutions, and they should come from someone making a $200,000 plus salary and benefits package.
sayitsnotsojack May 24, 2013 at 07:49 am
He is making more than the New York City Schools Chancellor who has 1,700 schools with 1.1 millionRead More students, 136,000 employees, and a $23 billion budget. Yet I bet he will tell you how overworked and underpaid he has been in Peekskill. These local guys have no clue as to what it really takes to run a system. They are all show and no tell.
joshua tanner May 22, 2013 at 11:44 pm
Notice at Peekskill Willis was paid 73,000 more and had 6000 students less. Heck the assistants inRead More Peekskill make more than the Superintendent in Utica. Then again they make more than the governor. Don't let anyone tell you Peekskill hasn't spent enough. Its a proven money pit.
elizabeth May 22, 2013 at 11:08 pm
same as all the superintendents we had in peekskill run the taxes up then leave all the money thayRead More waste over and over again put the schools back to the way they were and we could get rid of the buses that saves a bundle

Cremlock Dregs May 20, 2013 at 04:43 pm
Rita's Ices are righteous. I've had them in Philly and Atlantic City and they are the best in theRead More country (well, at least the best in Philly and A.C.). I'll be at the grand opening. You should be, too.
sayitsnotsojack May 23, 2013 at 10:46 pm
Mr Catalina it is very very easy to point out the faults, and problems but I have yet to feel youRead More have but forth any real solutions. Quite frankly after seeing you in action several times I do not have the feeling that you really care about us. I have no idea why you want to be mayor. For me you come off as being a wise guy.
W Kelly May 23, 2013 at 07:38 pm
My comments were directed at Look Who's Talking but believe everyone that posts should use theirRead More real identity to be taken seriously.

Mary has tainted the well for the Dems, Johnson is the 2nd to bow out! Her Tea party ties don't sitRead More well with the good people of this fair city! Her grand plans are not going well, and her dealings with the PHA makes her unfit to be mayor!!

Can you please tell me what the Hen Hud number translates to re: percent tax increase for aRead More homeowner in Cortlandt Manor?
NoisyNeighbor May 22, 2013 at 04:46 pm
I must of been sleeping or something. I didn't know there was a vote until I turned on channel 12 atRead More 10 pm last night.
SPK May 22, 2013 at 02:30 pm
Among those who voted, 72% supported the Lakeland School Budget.
Mike Rodriques May 22, 2013 at 09:20 am
I find it pretty pathetic that only 1206 people showed up to vote for the budget. I'm not sure ofRead More the homeowner count in the Lakeland school district, but I'm pretty sure it's higher than that...
joshua tanner May 22, 2013 at 10:28 am
Registration data can be very innaccurate since a voter isn't purged until they've been innactiveRead More for 2 federal elections. People die and move and can still be regsitered voters. Peekskill's demographics have changes dramatically over the last 10 yearsand the total voters have mirroed that.

Lady Peachena May 8, 2013 at 04:44 pm
What's My Mountain? My name is Lady Peachena, and I'm a singer, playwright, and resident ofRead More Peekskill, NY. I love Gospel music! It's always been my motivator! I've even written a Gospel play about the female singers that I used to listen to as a kid every day at dinner time. It's a powerful musical called, "THE GREAT DIVAS OF GOSPEL," that salutes the female pioneers of Gospel music like The Clara Ward Singers, The Sallie Martin Singers, The Famous Davis Sisters of Philadelphia, Dorothy Love Coates, The Roberta Martin Singers, The Famous Caravans, & Mahalia Jackson. Within this riveting show the cast tells their stories through drama, comedy, and by singing some of their biggest hits. These brave ladies stood up to racism, discrimination, and tough Jim Crow laws to take the uplifting message of salvation across this nation, and eventually around the world during the Golden Era of Gospel Music from 1945-1960. Today, mostly all of these great singers have passed on, so our show, "THE GREAT DIVAS OF GOSPEL," has been keeping their legacy alive. Now we want to take it a step further to reach a larger audience by filming a documentary of our show. We've signed up with Projects USA to raise funds for our documentary, and we have until June 30, 2013, to raise $40,000.00. We desperately need sponsors to make this venture a reality. Monies can be sent to: www.usaprojects.org so we can film this significant part of American history.
