Just wait for healthcare.gov to give out credit info like it's free candy. Terrible web security.

How do we know that Michaels, like Target before it, are not doing this themselves to get everyoneRead More to give up what little freedom we have left? Maybe News12 will investigate? No, that's right... News12 is just a glorified police blotter.

With prices rising in all industries, I call it the disease of liberal Democrats! And it is theRead More disease that will wipe out civilization!
mark April 18, 2014 at 08:23 am
When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

And the USDA has killed more than a billion birds and continues to do so - killing birds is bigRead More business for them. Technology exists that would stop these strikes, but its not being used - could it be that its more profitable to kill birds? Hint Hint - the USDA makes 126 MILLION yearly from these slaughters. Educate yourself - wildlife has just as much right to live as you do. Its their airspace too - we must learn how to share, instead of just constant killing http://www.businessinsider.com/how-radar-can-prevent-plane-bird-strikes-2014-1 http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2013/10/131108-aircraft-bird-strikes-faa-radar-science/

IThe new Mrs Green's in Tarrytown does not seem to be doing well. Should have been a Trader Joe's!
Bob Zahm March 29, 2014 at 12:14 am
@Bruce Apar - would certainly consider it if that was true, but having been here only for 12 years,Read More I'd never qualify.
Nora Mackenzie March 29, 2014 at 05:09 pm
I'm very sorry that Mrs. Green's did not consider expanding into Chappaqua when we really need aRead More grocery story, not a Walgreens. Yes, we can go into Mt. Kisco but they made a mess of the expansion in that store.

@emr...daily basis?
Paula Antolini March 13, 2014 at 01:14 pm
Sir....Perhaps emr did not mean that literally...but I did find that there is concern by utilityRead More companies about aging systems in older cities, "what to do about aging natural gas mains, many of them in difficult-to-access locations in older urban areas, which have deteriorated and are prone to leaking".....here's one NY example: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/energy/2014/03/140312-east-harlem-explosion-natural-gas-leaks-risk/
Theresa Flora March 11, 2014 at 02:25 pm
jo, we're very much outnumbered here in NY--by liberals and those looking for a handout. The cityRead More just elected de Blasio, and look what he's doing to charter schools. By the way, the powerful teachers union endorsed him. And I believe Cuomo will be re-elected. NY is a dysfunctional, overtaxed, nanny/welfare state, and sadly, I think the only solution is to get out. Leave the liberals with their mess.
brandie March 11, 2014 at 03:04 pm
Theresa as for Cuomo i think you may be wrong, he is in trouble and just doesn,t know it yet and theRead More only thing that will keep him is who the Republicans run against him. Astorino is not going to beat him and i do not know of any one else who could at this time.
Theresa Flora March 11, 2014 at 07:30 pm
Just like when no one thought Obama could get re-elected.

The problem with NYS is that it does not provide any incentives for local Planning or Zoning BoardsRead More to approve the very simple applications that come before them for approval or denial, or on the applications that are to set up, expand, or bring into the area a business of any kind. NYS is the most ANTI BUSINESS state you can live in, and I am not saying this to take any digs at the current Political Party that is in POWER, or at the economic goals that perhaps our current Governor is trying to achieve. NYS has been a very tough state to want to risk opening up a business in, whether you are that small shop keeper, or that business that can hire more than 50 people. NYS has always paid a blind eye and a deaf ear towards all request to help the small main street merchant wanting to either take a chance or survive. Never have I ever been exposed to a conversation held with a level of Government that is above both the local or County level, where when I got off the phone I felt like I could accomplish going forward with my dream to open up a business in NYS. NYS dead last for a reason! NYS JUST CAN"T AFFORD BEING DEAD LAST!

As a Small Business Owner in Westchester I'm disappointed ,as the 2 Parties bicker about who's faultRead More it is ..the problem get's worse by the day...the solution is in OUR HANDS !.. BUY LOCAL!,and whenever possible BUY AMERICAN !..As long as everyone longs for the Cheap Foreign crap, and flocks to the Big Box Discount Stores that deal in it,this country will never Recover..go ahead Shop online, give it to Amazon or whoever.. and you wonder why you can't find a Job? or the one you have doesn't pay what it used to..look into Income inequality..and maybe check out Robert Reich's documentary on the subject..We as Americans need to take responsibility for our Actions and the Consequences of those actions..We can't keep looking for SOMEONE ELSE OR THE GOVT to fix our Problems..Can't you see how Futile an Endeavor that is ? ..if this Country is to be Fixed it has to come from Mainstreet USA..not Congress or the White House, regardless of the governing Party whether they be Democrat, Republican,Independent ect..It was people in my area passing by my Store on their way to Walmart,Target, the Internet ect that made for a lousy Holiday Shopping Season,Not a republican or a Democrat.

Nice (free?) publicity. Is this what content on the "new" Patch is devolving to?Read More Zzzzzzz..........
Lanning Taliaferro (Editor) February 24, 2014 at 12:44 pm
Hi, John Q. -- The hiring question and answer is the end of the article.
Tom February 24, 2014 at 06:04 pm
@PatchRat- Well, you can look at this article negatively and say Patch is devolving into giving outRead More free publicity, or you can look at it as a positive article that shows anyone can succeed at a business in this time of economic hardship. I chose the latter.

Is this a real drop in unemployment...or massive reduction in people dropping out of the workforce?Read More I have my suspicion that life in upstate NY has not improved and cannot improve without opening up new jobs, such as is possible with regulatory approval of Fracking. Figures don't lie, but liars sometimes figure.
JM January 30, 2014 at 06:52 pm
Well, first of all the graph is backwards. Current year columns need to be first (i.e. the red oneRead More should be 2013 not 2012). SPK, your suspicion is not only relevant for upstate but here in Westchester too. And the entire U.S. for that matter. Still trying to find out how many folks who dropped out of ''salaried'' jobs are spending their day playing the market and making more money now than they did with a paycheck. No journalist has ever been able to get that point. Average HH income has not changed in our area for 7 years but fewer people are working. What are those fewer people doing... to at least maintain the average HH income level? Answer that and you have a better idea of our true unemployment figures. For the rest of us who can't afford to play the market, we are trying to earn that $100K mandated salary required to live here.
