1. City Wide Tag Sale The city of Peekskill will host a city wide tag sale in about 30 different locations this Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Spend the whole day looking for treasures around the city. You can find the list of all participants here. Also, don’t forget to stop by the City Hall tag sale. Pop Warner football is running the tables there to raise funds for this year’s season. The Titans are asking the community to donate items for them to sell. You can also pick up registration packets for your child for the season. The Town of Cortlandt honored three employees at their Tuesday night board meeting.
Supervisor Linda Puglisi and Town Board members honored three town employees and thanked them for their service to the town on May 15: Jon Jacoby, Recreation Supervisor; Tim Fisher, Recreation Supervisor and Laura Repicky, who works for the Supervisor and the Justice Court. Supervisor Puglisi, Councilman Frank Farrell, Councilman John Sloan and Councilwoman Ann Lindau took turns reading each employees biographies and presented them with certificates. Director of Recreation, John Palmiotto, said that Fisher and Jacoby "get along wtith everyone," and are a great fit for the recreation department. He noted that they often deal with parents of summer camp kids that have questions or problems and handle both the parents and kids very well. …
Bill Would Provide a Preference in State Contracts for Disabled Veterans
The following is a press release from Senator Greg Ball's Office: The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.2423), sponsored by Senator Gregory R. Ball (R-C, Pawling), that would give greater access to state contracts to veterans who were disabled during their service. This bill would codify for New York an identical and highly successful program adopted for federal contracting. Given the increase in the number of veterans and disabled veterans due to recent overseas conflicts, this bill would provide a small measure of recognition that this group of selfless men and women deserve. “We must strengthen opportunities in state contracting for service-disabled veteran owned small businesses,” said Senator Greg Ball who currently …

Mary Kennedy, the 52-year-old estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was found dead in her Bedford home today. The Kennedy family released a statement to the press Wednesday evening: "We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time." The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed her death to Patch. They will be conducting an autopsy Thursday morning to determine the cause. Here are the unofficial final results from the Hendrick Hudson budget vote and elections held May 15. The results will not be made official until the board approves them at their next meeting. The $70,603,156 budget passed, which means the tax levy will be raised by about 1.06 percent for Hendrick Hudson taxpayers. The tax rate will increase by about 1.72 percent for Cortlandt residents and decrease by 1.66 percent for Peekskill residents who pay Hen Hud taxes. * = Absentee ballot

County Prisoner Charged with Selling Coke to Undercover Cop A 48-year-old Peekskill man who is in Westchester County Jail on an unrelated charge, was additionally charged with three counts of third degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, a felony, for selling powered cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions. Detectives Joe McGann and Anthony Malfitano charged te county prisoner, Gordon Smith, following an eight month investigation conducted jointly with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety. Smith was arraigned in Peekskill City Court and returned to the Westchester County Jail. Croton …

Daisy Jopling has been schooling audiences around the world on the range and possibilities of a violin for years. Since she moved to Peekskill a few years ago she has been thrilling audiences with her violin at all kinds of events, from school assembly’s to festivals to the Paramount Center for the Arts. On May 19 she will return to the Paramount to perform music from her new album, a collection of high-energy classical music fused with world music and rock, with her band. Last year, she brought the Paramount crowd to their feet when they gave her a full-house standing ovation.
