Lady Peachena May 8, 2013 at 04:44 pm
What's My Mountain? My name is Lady Peachena, and I'm a singer, playwright, and resident of…Read More Peekskill, NY. I love Gospel music! It's always been my motivator! I've even written a Gospel play about the female singers that I used to listen to as a kid every day at dinner time. It's a powerful musical called, "THE GREAT DIVAS OF GOSPEL," that salutes the female pioneers of Gospel music like The Clara Ward Singers, The Sallie Martin Singers, The Famous Davis Sisters of Philadelphia, Dorothy Love Coates, The Roberta Martin Singers, The Famous Caravans, & Mahalia Jackson. Within this riveting show the cast tells their stories through drama, comedy, and by singing some of their biggest hits. These brave ladies stood up to racism, discrimination, and tough Jim Crow laws to take the uplifting message of salvation across this nation, and eventually around the world during the Golden Era of Gospel Music from 1945-1960. Today, mostly all of these great singers have passed on, so our show, "THE GREAT DIVAS OF GOSPEL," has been keeping their legacy alive. Now we want to take it a step further to reach a larger audience by filming a documentary of our show. We've signed up with Projects USA to raise funds for our documentary, and we have until June 30, 2013, to raise $40,000.00. We desperately need sponsors to make this venture a reality. Monies can be sent to: www.usaprojects.org so we can film this significant part of American history.

Budget vote today

Most of the candidates seem to say the same things "I am comitted to high quality…Read More education" etc etc. Only Rolv (Nick) Nicolaysen said things like "There has been no attention been spent on conservation of resources. We seem to be throwing good money after bad with no regard to its lack of effectiveness". Peekskill is one year of Carmelo Anthony's salary away from spending a tenth of a billion dollars on a yearly budget. We have multiple asssitant superintendents making more than Cuomo and they keep wanting to raise the taxes on senior citizens among others to pay for these. More and more money evey year and the schools get worse.

Another weak candidate. " I wouldn't consider cutting any area unless it is absolutely…Read More necessary, I would rather raise funds and get the community involved in doing so." Good luck with that idea. Perhaps you should of given a concrete plan for how you will raise funds. With the number of free and reduced lunch (and may I add breakfast) students in this district do you honestly think there is money Peekskill.

Dear Officer Dylewski:
That was a very moving tribute to your dear friend Charlie. I hope that you…Read More found comfort in writing this piece.
I felt the same way when I was looking for a house in Peekskill my neighbors across the street made me feel the same way you felt when you met Charlie.
However five minutes talking to Wassil put me at rest and made me feel like I was in the right place. We were similar in many ways.
I am currently in my house 27 years and not sure I would have picked my house, if it weren't for the kind words from the Jesshope family Mothers Day 1986.

Porter,
Many love to talk about the Free Market when it comes to trains. Only the Free Market no…Read More longer exists. In fact, trains were the only form of transportation, save horses and walking, that existed in a true Free Market. Years ago, passenger trains were all privately owned & operated. The Free Market died when Government started subsidizing flying & driving. --------- And here's one other data point for you. According to the Taxpayer's Receipt for 2009, a married couple with 2 kids and $80K in income watched $110.06 of their Federal income tax dollars go into highways. A retired couple with $100K in income saw $89.38 go to the highways, even if they can no longer drive a car, much less own one.
That big, bad Amtrak that many like you love to complain about. The couple with 2 kids paid $3.83 towards that, the retired couple $3.11.

Porter,
How quickly you forget what you've already ready. No doubt that's do to that fact that you…Read More don't wish to admit the truth to yourself. It's called dodging and misdirection what you're doing. The first link that I provided you showed that in 2010 it was 42%. The second link that I provided you with showed that in 2007 it was 51%, before putting back in diverted monies which would bring it back up to 65%. I'm sorry Sir, but the only one being dishonest here is YOU! -------- As for zeroing in when the tax was last raised, I only did that because you questioned my time line, again because you weren't paying attention to what you read. ----------- So once again, go back to the Subsidyscope link, which provides you with a nice pretty picture of the funding since the start of the Interstate Highway System. It quite clearly shows that we've never gotten as high 90% in the entire history of the Interstate Highway System. -------- And once again, since the Federal fuel tax was diverted from its primary purpose of paying down out national debt, as enacted back in 1932 by then President Herbert Hoover, the real truth is that the numbers are ever lower than what is shown in the Subsidyscope graph. Since you like to claim that the money diverted to transit should count, I'm going to claim that every dime in Federal money was not paid for by drivers since it was diverted from paying on the debt as was intended.
