There's a small chance Wednesday could bring some rain in the afternoon; otherwise expect mostly cloudy skies and a high of 72 degrees. Thursday could see showers. Today is Columbus Day, a federal holiday. That means government offices and schools are closed. Some banks are, too, and so is the Field Library.

Items on Tuesday's Common Council and Committee of the Whole agendas include an inter-municipal agreement regarding prisoner transportations and recommendations for the 2014 budget. In Cortlandt, the Zoning Board of Appeals will meet Wednesday night at 7.

In school news: The first annual Peekskill High School Golf Invitational, benefitting the annual honor societies scholarship fund, is scheduled for Tuesday. Lakeland schools will host a math night Wednesday for students in grades kindergarten through fifth. Over at Hendrick Hudson, sign-ups for high school winter sports starts Tuesday.
