Hudson Valley Hospital Makes Wishes Come True for Children in Need

Santa to supervise wrapping of more than 800 gifts on Dec. 21

Santa’s Helpers at will spend the afternoon tomorrow (Dec. 21) wrapping mountains of presents to make wishes come true for local children and their families.

In an annual tradition, at 1 p.m. in the Wagner Conference Room staff will begin wrapping more than 800 gifts that will be donated to local social services agencies and delivered to families in need.  Pajamas and books, dolls, trucks, musical instruments and art supplies, boots, socks and tons of toys, clothing and other gifts will be packaged in a few short hours. Santa is expected to stop by to supervise the Hospital elves at work.

This year – the 16th year of Santa’s Helpers - the Hospital is spending $125 per child on 103 children in addition to donations made by local companies.

Danny’s Cycle in Mohegan Lake will deliver a shiny, new bicycle to grant the wish of an 11-year-old boy who lives in a group home. Freight Liquidators granted the wish of a 5-year-old girl who wanted her first real bed and hospital staff bought all the linens.

“We had so many people come forward and volunteer to help this year,’’ said Sue Lepore, facilitator of the program in the administration office at HVHC. “These children ask for so little. We try to make this a great holiday by giving them more than they request.’’
