Cortlandt Manor's Kristina McCarthy Honored with President's Volunteer Service Award

The Cortlandt EMT received this prestigious award for her dedication to the community.

The White House issued Cortlandt Manor EMT, Kristina McCarthy, with a President's Volunteer Service Award, a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service last month. McCarthy volunteers with the Mohegan and Putnam Vally Volunteer Ambulance Corps and is also a member of the Mohegan Fire Deptartment fire police unit.

The President's Volunteer Service Award honors individuals who have achieved a certain standard measured by the number of hours served over the course of a 12-month period, and to those who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and who have demonstrated exemplary citizenship.

“McCarthy has dedicated more than 800 hours of volunteer time and commitment to her community in 2011. She served in the role of an emergency medical technician who demonstrated excellence in the performance of emergency medical services,” states a Press Release from the White House.

"These recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards are role models for all Americans," President Barack Obama said. "Each volunteer hour contributed makes a difference in improving the quality of life for others, and I encourage everyone to contribute to our community by volunteering. Volunteers bring us closer together as families, as communities and as a Nation, through their commitment."
