Reeves Leads PHS: Peekskill-Cortlandt Daily Sports Digest Feb. 9

Varsity basketball

The essence of high-school sports is rivalries, especially when they are of the crosstown variety.

That was the case Feb. 7 when hosted , in a boys basketball contest.

Panas, led by 10 points from Zac Preuss, who scored a game-high 15 points, and seven from Vaughn Dweck, who tallied 12 total, jumped out to a 25-20 first-quarter lead. 

Ruben Rosado also totalled 12 points for Panas.

However, paced by six points from Eddie Reeves, who scored a team-high 14 points, the Red Devils outscored Panas 23-5 in the second quarter en route to a 76-61 triumph.

Chandler Pierce (13 points) and Kyree Hull (12) also registered double figures in points for the victorious Red Devils.

 

JV basketball

Before the varsity contest, Panas and Peekskill also got together for what turned out to be a thrilling JV contest, with Panas winning 55-53.

The Panthers were led by a red hot Tim McCauley, who scored a game-high 21 points. Teammates Tommy Frost and Mike McMahon also played key roles in the Panas' victory with 11 points apiece.

Peekskill was led by Julian Culthberson, who tallied 15 points. Estevan Retamar scored 9 points with Morgan Jackson and Robert Parker contributing 8 points each.

 

Girls basketball

One couldn't win a game in more spectacular fashion then Hendrick Hudson's girls basketball squad did at Lakeland Feb. 7,

That is when Hen Hud's Megan Jahoda, who scored six points, sunk a half-court shot at the buzzer to stun Lakeland 41-38.

The Sailors were led by Meaghan Lynch, who registered a game-high 21 points.

Emily Alicea led a well-balanced attack with 11 points for Lakeland.

Also locally Peekskill, led by Asia Jackson's 19 points, won at Panas 52-39.

Christine Myers led Panas with 9 points.
