It was a fitting final regular-season home game in the high-school careers of seniors Asia Jackson, Troi Nolan, Dottie Bradshaw, Shonae Draper and Samantha Jackson on Feb. 3 when the Red Devils (10-6) hosted Putnam Valley.

Before the game, all five were honored for all the work and time they had put into the hoops program at Peekskill. For Hofstra-bound Asia Jackson, it would be the last regular-season home game the all-state guard would play after starting five years on the varsity, a rare achievement indeed.

What made the pre-game extra special was the return of the best DJ in the land, Peekskill alumnus Pete Peterson, who gave the ceremony that little extra like no one else can.

He showed the extra special touch he puts on an event by besides of course giving proper respect to the Red Devil seniors that were being honored, he also acknowledged Putnam Valley seniors Carey Berry, Natalie Gallo and Rachel Fitzgerald.

Peterson had them stand up and take a bow and the classy crowd at the John Devins Gymanasium cheered for them as well.

As for the game, the Red Devils jumped out to a 19-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back in a 72-28 victory.

Asia Jackson led Peekskill to the win with 20 points with Draper contributing 13 points to the victory.

Besides winning on its senior night, the victory was also big because Peekskill is trying to secure a home game in the first round of the sectionals and needs to get the No. 8 seed in order to do so.

Currently, according to MSG Varsity's Kevin Devaney Jr., Peekskill is the No. 9 Class A squad in his "Bracketology."

Giglio Games

Lakeland and Walter Panas' girls hoop squads played in the annual  at Walter Panas High School Feb. 4 with the Hornets coming out on top 38-32.

Taylor Pompilio led Lakeland with 10 points, followed by Kate Weldon who registered eight points.

Christine Myers led the Panthers with nine points.

Cortlandt boys rocking

Cortlandt is enjoying an oustanding year in the boys eighth grade B division of the Tri-County Basketball League as it has won 6 of its 8 games.

One of those six wins came on Jan. 31, a 53-26 triumph against the Scarsdale Heat.
